PUBLIC NOTICE The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for Federal assistance from County of Hawai’i Department of Environmental Management to construct the North Kona Pump Station Improvements in Honokahau, North Kona, Hawai’i. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties. The project will transer sewage from the surrounding industrial and commercial areas to the Kealakehe wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Improvements will include a new pump station with a control building, a gravity sewer line along Hina Lani, and two 20-inch force mains along Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway. The proposed pump station will be located on a designated parcel in the Southwest corner of the West Hawai’i Business Park development. The proposed gravity sewer line to be located within Hina Lani, will connect to an existing sewer manhole at the Hina Lani/Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway Intersection and will extend up to the Ulu Wini Housing complex area. The proposed force mains will connect to the existing dry force mains at the Kealakehe Parkway/Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway Intersection and will extend along the Highway and connect to an existing manhole on Kealakehe WWTP access road.
