The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) continues to monitor and evaluate air traffic control procedures in the Hilo area. The FAA is proposing to implement a new Special Area Navigation (RNAV) Visual Runway 08 approach flight procedure at Hilo International Airport. The FAA has determined the proposed new Special Area Navigation Visual Runway 8 approach flight procedure is considered an undertaking subject to review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (16 U.S.C. ยง 470 et seq.) and its implementing regulations at 36 C.F.R. part 800. The FAA has determined that the proposed undertaking would not have the potential to introduce audible or visual elements that could diminish the integrity of an historic property. As a result of careful consideration of the potential effects of the proposed undertaking, the FAA proposes a finding of “no historic properties affected”. The views of the public are essential to informed Federal decision making in the Section 106 process. The FAA has made available the letter of consultation with the State of Hawaii State Historic Preservation Division on the webpage: https://dev-www.faa.gov/air_traffic/community_involvement/ito/. The FAA will accept public review and comment on its findings pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. As part of this review, a 30-day public comment period from July 7, 2021 through August 7, 2021 is available within which to submit comments. The FAA will accept written comments through August 7, 2021. The public is invited to submit comments via the Web comment form available on the webpage https://dev-www.faa.gov/air_traffic/community_involvement/ito/ community_comments/, or by mail at Federal Aviation Administration, Western Service Area – Operations Support Group, 2200 S. 216th Street, Des Moines, WA 98198.
