US Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District PUBLIC NOTICE Record of Decision Former Waikoloa Maneuver Area FUDS Munitions Response Site: Sector 15 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Honolulu District, announces the No Further Action Record of Decision for Munitions Response Site (MRS) Sector 15 within the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area, South Kohala, Island of Hawai’i. Sector 15, a Formerly Used Defense Site, is 11,200 acres located east of Waimea and comprised primarily of Pu’ukapu Hawaiian Home Lands including Kuhio Village and Kanu o ka ‘Aina school. This MRS was historically used as a non-live fire maneuver training area during World War II era and as such no evidence has been found that indicates munitions training was conducted within the site. The Record of Decision documents USACE’s investigation findings and the determination that No Further Action is needed to protect human health and the environment.
