PUBLIC NOTICE All persons having information concerning an unmarked Native Hawaiian burial present within TMK: (3) 8-2-014:043, a 1.13-acre parcel in Kealakekua Ahupua’a, South Kona District, Island of Hawai’I are hereby requested to contact Christian Omerod, Burial Sites Specialist, State Historic Preservation Division (SHPD), (808) 933-7650, 40 Po’okela Street, Hilo, HI 96720; or Solomon H. Kailihiwa III, M.S., P.O. Box 1213, Captain Cook, Hawaii 96704, (808) 493-8884. Treatment of the burial will occur in accordance with HRS, Chapter 6E. The applicant, The Friends of Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, proposes to preserve the burial in place in accordance with a plan prepared in consultation with any identified descendants and with the approval of the Hawai’i Island Burial Council. All interested parties should respond within thirty (30) days of this notice and provide information to SHPD adequately demonstrating lineal descent from the Native Hawaiian remains, or cultural descent from ancestors buried in the same ahupua’a. Family names associated with the property ahupua’a identified through historical document research include: Kuakini, Kaonohi, Kaioku, Keaka, Kaaiahuli, Ialua, Papaula, Keohokalole, Hale, Hawea, Keanu, Kamakaliilii, Hiwa, Koko, Laiolii, Kualaikia, Lono, Kamauli, and Kaikuaana.
