DAVID LLANES David Llanes peacefully passed away at home on June 23, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 18, 1936, he was the oldest of 14 children and lived a life defined by family, hard work, and service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He proudly served his country and retired from the United States Army National Guard. He continued his life’s passions as a coffee farmer, lifelong fisherman, retired cook from Kona Surf, and most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. David was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith guided the way he lived, always placing family, service, and love at the center of his life. David was a very hard worker from a young age, and that never wavered throughout his life. He touched everyone and everything with his infectious smile and happy-go-lucky attitude. He was a man who never hesitated to do whatever it took to provide for his family. He never feared a work schedule, rather it be days, nights, weekends, or holidays, he always gave his best and made it all look effortless. He believed in hard work and enjoyed his playtime going holo holo, embracing life to the fullest. His happiest days were spent throw net along the Kona coastline and camping at ?Opihihale, where he loved fishing with family and friends. He loved being surrounded by nature, especially near the ocean, and never passed up the chance to challenge family and friends to a good card game of rummy. He often spoke of the importance of fellowship, believing life’s greatest blessings could be found in gathering with those you love. To David, life wasn’t measured by what he had, but by the memories he made, the laughter he shared, and the time spent with the people he loved. Cooking was David’s love language. As a retired cook, he expressed his love not through words, but through the meals he prepared. He believed the best meals didn’t need anything fancy or cost a lot. His fresh ingredients mostly came from the ocean and his garden, along with a little patience and a lot of love, every meal became something special that could feed a village. Nothing made him happier than seeing his family and friends gathered around the table talking story, laughing, and playing a good game of rummy while enjoying a meal together. Through his God-given talent for cooking, his welcoming smile and generous heart made everyone feel at home around him. David is survived by his beloved wife, Edwina Llanes, and their children: Daughters: Ginger Llanes, Mary Ann (Clayton Jr.) Tremaine, Davina (Elton) Kotake, Melissa (Bannister) Brownlee, Melanie (Robert) Lucas.
