NOTICE OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION MEETING: SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT, KUKUIOLA EMERGENCY SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROJECT, KEALAKEHE AHUPUA’A, NORTH KONA, HAWAI’I ISLAND Notice is hereby given that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the County of Hawai’i Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) intend to construct an Emergency Housing Shelter facility and a Permanent Supportive Housing development (Kukuiola Project) on a portion of TMK: (3) 7-4-020:004 in Kealakehe Ahupua’a, North Kona, Hawai’i Island The proposed project is considered a federal undertaking as defined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The Kukuiola Project is envision by the County of Hawai’i to provide space for a multi-organization/multi-agency approach to help reduce the number of homeless individuals and couples without children in the Kealakehe and greater North Kona region and provide social services and programs to help transition emergency shelter individuals to permanent housing and/or affordable housing programs to meet State and County homeless housing goals. The Emergency Shelter Facility would be situated on approximately 6.4 acres and the Permanent Supportive Housing development on approximately 12.7 acres along Kelakehe Parkway in the general La’i’opua vicinity. Pursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, a public consultation meeting will be held on Tuesday August 16 at 5:30 pm at the West Hawaii Civic Center Building G, located at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway. Details of the proposed project will be presented at the meeting and attendees will be asked to provide their input with respect to the identification and protection of historic properties.
