Public Notice Hawaii American Water (HAW) is implementing facility improvements at the Mauna Lani Sewage pump Station 1a (SPS1a) located near the Mauna Lani Resort hotel (Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection: 68-1400 Mauna Lani Drive, South Kohala), 0.25 miles west of North Pauoa Road at the end of a dedicated access road between North Golf Course fairways. The Project will involve structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and safety improvements at the Mauna Lani SPS1a. HAW has authorized its contractor, Big Island Mechanical&Construction, LLC to perform the required construction work for the facility improvements of the Mauna Lani SPS1a. As part of their work, the Contractor may engage in activities that increase the ambient noise levels in your area. To the extent practicable, construction would occur Monday through Friday, during normal construction daytime hours (7:00 AM to 6:00 PM), with no construction activities performed during the Federal and State holidays, and/or special events. However, temporary bypass pumping of the pump station flows is required continuously around the clock (24 hours a day), 7 days a week (Monday through Sunday), for an approximate duration of 4 months (likely between January and April 2026) until the wet well renovation and pump station equipment replacement activities are completed to maintain existing sewage flows and serviceability to the community. Bypass pumps, light source, construction equipment, and generators will be used during the bypass pumping operations, with the bypass pumps and light source being the only equipment running during the nighttime hours. Once the facility improvements at the pump station are complete and bypass pumping is no longer needed, noise emissions for the Project would be more typical of construction noises associated with backhoes, graders, and dump trucks.
