Five-Year Review for Pohakuloa Training Area, Island of Hawaii, Hawaii The U.S. Department of the Army (Army) has completed the Third Five-Year Review of the environmental remedies implemented at Landfill 1 (POTA-03) and Landfill 2 (POTA-06) at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) in Hawaii County, Hawaii. The Army, with oversight by the Hawaii Department of Health, evaluated the protectiveness of the remedies in accordance with the 2010 Decision Document for POTA-03 and POTA-06. The statutory Five-Year Review was conducted in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, commonly known as Superfund, and the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan. The Five-Year Review Report documents methods used for the review, and the findings and conclusions based on a records review and site inspections. The Third Five-Year Review Report was signed December 22, 2025, and concluded the remedies at POTA-03 and POTA-06 are protective of human health and the environment.
